Y, 2.00 credit(s)Description: We’ll wrap up the HR 101 Series with a discussion of the critical importance of training and developing supervisors. This segment will include defining the roles and responsibilities of supervisors and how they can make, or break, an employer.
We’ll revisit the importance of documentation and how supervisors can contribute to this important and protective activity, as well as the supervisor’s role in developing and evaluating other team members.
One key takeaway is understanding when supervisors’ exemption status can change from non-exempt to exempt.

Speaker Bios:
Sharon DeLay is an HR consultant, business owner, national speaker, and President of GO-HR, an outsourced HR firm serving small and micro businesses across the U.S. Through GO-HR, she partners with organizations to build compliant, practical, and people-centered HR practices across strategy and compliance, recruiting and onboarding,
training and development, benefits consulting, and workplace investigations. Sharon brings deep experience from higher education, direct sales, communications, and
corporate leadership, and is known for translating complex HR and employment issues into clear, actionable guidance for business owners and leaders.
Sharon holds an MBA and multiple undergraduate degrees and maintains senior-level HR credentials including SPHR and SHRM-SCP, along with certifications as a Career Coach, Résumé Writer, and EEO Investigator. She recently earned SHRM’s AI+HI Specialty Credential, reflecting her focus on the responsible and ethical integration of artificial
intelligence with human intelligence in the workplace. An active industry and community
leader, Sharon serves in leadership roles with the Human Resource Association of Central Ohio, has held board positions with business and nonprofit organizations, and regularly contributes her expertise through training, mentoring, and community engagement focused on strengthening workplaces and small businesses. Sharon lives in Columbus, OH (O-H!) with her husband and three dogs. From April through October they enjoy camping with friends.
Karen Poling, Esq., graduated from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. with a B.S.B.A. in finance and international management; she worked for a Washington D.C.
commercial mortgage banking firm prior to attending law school. Returning home to Central Ohio, Karen graduated from The Ohio State University College of Law. She was a
managing editor for the Ohio State Law Journal before becoming a staff attorney to JudgeThomas O’Grady of the Court of Appeals for the Second District.
In 2000, Karen started private practice in Dublin, Ohio. In August 2006, Karen started her own practice focused on the areas of domestic and employment law, moving her practice to Hilliard in December 2012. Karen is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, the Columbus Bar Association, Chief Justice Thomas J. Moyer Inn of Court, the Human Resource Association of Central Ohio, and Hilliard Chamber of Commerce. Karen is married and has two human children and two furry ones.
